Alessandra Araújo
Born in 1981 in Brasília-DF, Brazil
Resides and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Alessandra Araújo develops her work exploring the language of photography, both film and digital. The analog processes are an essential part of her artistic practice. Through wanderings and nature contemplation, she investigates the many ways of documenting the passing of time. In her digital work, her editing style is inspired by film photography.
She lived in Kyiv, Ukraine (2014-2019) where she decided to create a photoblog as a personal project to share cultural and historical information about Ukraine and her journey as an expat living in Eastern Europe. She ended up working as a freelance environmental portrait photographer from 2017 on.
Since 2019, she has lived and worked in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She graduated in Pedagogy with a dual degree: Educational Guidance and Elementary School Teaching at Universidade de Brasília - UnB (2004). She studied photography at Espaço f/508 de Fotografia (2007-2008) in Brasília-DF, Brazil.
Childhood is a theme of her interest because she finds it fascinating how fast kids develop in their first years of life. She enjoys documenting them growing up and noticing all the things they learn in such a short period.
In her client work, she always tries to show tenderness and lightness. As for the poses, she usually tries to capture candid and spontaneous moments, but can give some directions if needed (especially in portrait sessions).
