In 2014, I was preparing to move to Ukraine, and I decided to fully dedicate my life to photography since I would not be able to work there (no work permit). Considering that I would have plenty of time, my plan was to study and improve my photography and editing skills.
Before moving, I invited my beautiful albino friend to be my model because I came up with an idea for a photoshoot, and she agreed. I had watched a video directed by the artist Yoann Lemoine (a.k.a. Woodkid) and I got inspired to make photos using it as a reference. You can check the video here.
The idea was to tell a story of a nymph walking in the woods, her natural habitat. I bought her a white dress that was exactly what I had in mind for this shooting and we went to a park to make the photos. Also, I asked her to do a light make up and bring her flower crown. And we spent a pleasant afternoon together.
Back then, I could not edit the photos the way I wanted and left them in my archive. Fast forward to 2017, when I finally found my editing style and decided to edit this portrait session again. In that same year, I started working as a freelance photographer in Ukraine. I had created an Instagram account to work as a portfolio and shared these photos there.
Meanwhile, my model friend was singing in a gothic shoe-gazing duo called That Gum U Like and they were about to release a new single. They saw the photos on my Instagram account and asked me if they could use one of them as artwork for their new single which I agreed. The song is called “Biography” and you can listen to it on Spotify, Bancamp and YouTube.
The duo's name was taken from the TV series Twin Peaks, directed by David Lynch. I was very inspired by this music project and asked them if they would be interested in a collaboration with me and they said "yes!". I will write about it in another post.
