In 2014, I was preparing to move to Ukraine, and I decided to dedicate my life to photography since I would not be able to work there (no work permit). Considering that I would have plenty of time, my plan was to study and improve my photography and editing skills.
Before moving, I invited my beautiful albino friend to be my model because I got an idea for a photoshoot, and she agreed. I had watched a video directed by the artist Yoann Lemoine (aka Woodkid) and I got inspired to make photos using it as a reference. You can check the video here.
The idea was to tell a story of a nymph walking in the woods, her natural habitat. I bought her a white dress that was exactly what I had in mind for this shooting and we went to a park to make the photos. Also, I asked her to do a light make up and bring her flower crown. And we had spent a pleasant afternoon together.
Back then, I could not edit the photos the way I wanted and left them in my archive. Fast forward to 2017, when I finally found my editing style and decided to edit this portrait session again. In that same year, I started working as a freelance photographer in Ukraine. I had created an Instagram account to work as a portfolio and shared these photos there.
Meanwhile, my model friend was singing in a gothic shoe-gazing duo called That Gum U Like and they were about to release a new single. They saw the photos on my Instagram and asked me if they could use one of them as art cover which I agreed. The song is called “Biography” and you can listen to it on Spotify, Bancamp and YouTube.
The duo's name was taken from the series Twin Peaks, directed by David Lynch. I was very inspired by this music project and asked them if they would be interested in a collaboration and they said yes! I will write about it in another post.
